Tooth bonding can correct minor defects in teeth. Although many types of fillings are “bonded”, most people associate “bonding” with the common use for correction of problems with front teeth. Bonded fillings are made of plastic. The plastic fillings come in many different colours, so there will be one to match the colour of anybody’s teeth. Bonding is useful for the correction of small problems, but our centers has extreme concerns at some claims made for this treatment. As the material used in bonding is a plastic, it deteriorates over time and can only be described as a temporary solution for cosmetic problems. A far more certain correction is gained by using ceramic veneers. At our centers, we use bonding as a guide to give people an idea of what their teeth could like if ceramic veneers were placed. For very small problems, bonding is ideal, but for most common cosmetic defects, bonding is a short term solution only. Bonded cosmetic changes tend to be prone to breaking.
- Small cosmetic changes
- Temporary Correction of cosmetic defects
- Correction of teeth in areas of very low bite loading.
We use the latest bonding materials available, from a number of world-wide sources, ensuring the maximum strength available for correction of cosmetic defects. Because of the nature of the plastic material used, which regardless of manufacturer, is prone to staining and dissolving, bonding repairs can not be regarded as permanent. Small repairs may last for many, many years, but major repairs can last an extremely short amount of time. In our office, we advise that people should be aware of the limitations of bonding, but that a very permanent solution can be achieved with ceramic veneers.
